Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical and largely painless treatment used to reduce varicose veins and spider veins.
Varicose veins and spider veins are caused by faulty valves within veins that allow blood to pool and cause the unwanted darkish-blue or pinkish lines lines on legs and in the case of spider veins, also the face.
While both are often considered unsightly, most of our clients can expect an improvement in the appearance of the targeted veins with varicose vein treatment and spider vein treatment here at our Geelong cosmetic clinic.
Sclerotherapy involves the injection of sclerosants (irritant chemicals or a highly concentrated saline solution) into the affected vein. The sclerosants cause the vein to collapse in on itself and once healed, the vein is sealed and can no longer carry blood. Smaller veins will fade over a period of up to six or seven weeks and large varicose veins will take substantially longer. The larger the vein, the more treatment sessions required.
Following sclerotherapy treatment of veins on the legs, you will required to wear compression stockings to help with closure of the veins. The amount of time you will be required to wear the stockings will again be dependent on the size of the veins treated. It is also vital to walk for 30 minutes per day while you are wearing the compression stockings to keep the risk of DVT to a minimum.
The possible side effects associated with sclerotherapy are rare, however please do not hesitate to contact us at Tox Bar for comprehensive information regarding the side effects of spider vein treatment and varicose vein treatment.
Sclerotherapy is just one of the many skin treatments available at the Tox Bar. We also offer LED light therapy, anti-wrinkle injections and CryoPen cryotherapy skin treatments at our Geelong clinic.
